Charting Tool - Troubleshooting

Occasionally it is frustrating when we cannot get ICT to do exactly what we want, so it is useful to know some of the constraints of this tool.

Entering data

  • Data is entered by selecting Add data which creates a new row of two columns. It is possible to enter and work with only one list of data.
  • If two lists are to be compared, they will need to be of the same length. Otherwise, any zero entries will be included in the data and distort the calculations and graphs.
  • Data values can have up to 6 significant figures.
  • Data values should be positive numbers.
  • It is possible to input data as coordinates in the Coordinate and Graphing Tool. If you choose the Save data option before exiting Coordinate and Graphing and opening the Charting tool, the data can be imported using the Load coordinate data option.

Drawing statistical graphs

  • The type of graphs that can be shown will depend on whether the data is defined as raw data (allowing one or two lists to be graphed and/or compared) or frequency data which will assumes that List 2 contains the frequencies for the data values in List 1.
  • All of the graphs will assume a minimum value of zero for the x-axis.
