Intel®
skoool.co.za is the latest in a series of worldwide initiatives by Intel in the educational sector. The Intel® Education initiative is a global, multi-million dollar programme focusing on preparing today's students for tomorrow's challenges. In 2000, Intel Corporation contributed more than $107 million worldwide to primary, secondary and third level education programmes.
Education is a major focus area for Intel. Building on Intel’s mission of being a major force in improving science, maths and technology education, Intel has implemented a number of programmes at both local and national level, including Intel® Teach To The Future.

Intel® Innovation Centre
The Innovation Centre (IIC) has global responsibility to research and develop innovative leading-edge IT solutions and technology.
The Innovation Centre is at the forefront of demonstrating how Information Technology and Intel products can continue to deliver new competitive advantage through the development of compelling new IT value propositions. A key driver will involve the identification and resolution of real business issues through developing leading-edge IT solutions.
The Centre works collaboratively with other Intel IT groups, Intel product/marketing groups and industry players to drive adoption of advanced solutions. The Innovation Centre is also used as a showcasing venue for Intel customers and as a host venue for industry and Intel customer events.
MTN SA FOUNDATION
Vision: To position MTN as a socially sensitive telecommunications operator, striving to improve the quality of life of communities in markets where it operates.
Mission: To create a better life for communities in SA’s emerging telecommunications markets through collaboration with civil society and government.
MTN SA Foundation’s primary focus for the sustainable improvement of the lives of communities where it operates revolves around two streams of its corporate social responsibility programme, i.e., Education and Health.
MTN SA, through its Foundation, believes in empowering communities through the support of educational endeavours in the fields of Science & Technology; Arts & Culture; and Entrepreneurship Development. Support for the development of the Intel skoool™ Education Technology web tool is an expression of the MTN SA Foundation’s commitment to promoting the learning and teaching of Mathematics, Biology and Science in South African schools to advance its Science and Technology agenda.
Not only is MTN promoting Science and Technoloy education through its association with Intel skoool™, but has also given access to Information Communication Technologies (Its) to 200 000 learners by connecting 183 schools through its Schools Connectivity Programme. This programme seeks to bridge the digital divide through the expansion of access to ICTs in disadvantaged communities by establishing multi-media centres equipped with:
- 10 computers;
- servers;
- preloaded learner content,
- a multifunctional copier,
- a television set and video recorder;
- videotapes on Science, Maths and English ;and
- a modem which utilises the MTN network to provides fast access to the Internet.
MTN is also the main sponsor of the MTN Science Centre based in Cape Town; and in this role has become recognised as the leading supporter of non-formal science and technology education in South Africa. MTN’s sponsorship of the Science Centre orginates from its conviction that science centres are the most effective means of stimulating interest in science and technology among young learners. During the first eight months of 2007, 32 841 learners and educators visited the MTN Science Centre.
The education stream of the MTN SA Foundation includes Arts and Culture. Through its Arts and Culture programme MTN has collected 1 388 diverse historic works of art - both traditional and contemporary - from South Africa and within the rest of the continent. This collection has been utilised to support trainers, learners and emerging artists. The MTN SA Foundation supports the mainstreaming of Arts and Culture as an educational tool. To date the MTN Arts and Culture programme has reached more than 180 000 learners and teachers.
